SMOOTH TORQUE Issue 15 WINTER 1998 We at NUTRON hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and wish you a successful and prosperous 1998. BETTER STILL During the last two years we have released packages to complement the smooth high torque NUTRON motor. Whilst the 10 cu in motor runs extremely smooth from 1rpm to 460 rpm, we also wanted to improve the low speed characteristics of the 3 and 6 cu in motors. The low leakage of the BV motor is directly proportional to the pressure generating torque, which is due to the unique patented pressure compensation system. This is unlike other motors, where the leakage is proportional to the pressures at the inlet and outlet ports. Despite the extremely low leakage, we still wanted an improvement. A few years ago, considerable development of the port and seal faces was undertaken to reduce the internal leakage. This left the piston fit as the other major leakage path. With the latest improvements in internal honing and measurement processes, we have been able to eliminate a process treatment, which decreases the minimum starting pressure and improves the piston clearance. This allows for the rotor sets to be assembled with much closer fitting pistons, resulting in lower leakage, improved rolling action of the pistons and less friction. This has produced aSMOOTHER, QUIETER MOTOR with LOWER MINIMUM SPEEDS, IMPROVED EFFICIENCY and LOWER RUNNING PRESSURES.
SIMPLIFIED SPEED CONTROL To obtain smooth controllable rotation, the NUTRON motor requires a meter out circuit. When electrical speed control is required, the usual choice is a servo or proportional directional control valve. However, we favor a standard directional control valve, preferably with an A and B to P spool, and a proportional flow control in the tank line, for maximum performance. As part of the on going product development, we can offer a proportional flow control cartridge with micro driver, shown opposite. The driver requires a 12 to 30 vdc supply (subject to coil voltage), with either a control voltage of 0 to 10 volts or a control current of 0 to 20 mA. The unit can be adjusted for maximum and minimum speed output with individual ramp up and down times of 0.1 to 20 seconds. more issues of SMOOTH TORQUE ![]() |
